Dr. Atkins' ripping revolution.(Letter to the Editor)

The reason OMI had such a great ripper so early (as you say in the April EDITOR'S SPIN) was Alan Atkins, the president of OMI, and the fact that OMI's main business was selling CD premastering systems. They wrote their own software and supported both the original Yamaha CD-R system and the subsequent Sony 900, which allowed the daisychaining of up to sixteen drives for mass production. Of course, we were paying $40/each for CD-R media in those days.
