Japanese electronics manufacturer Toshiba has produced its first multi-format DVD recorder. Model D-R1 incorporates 'Super MultiDrive' functionality that enables it to record and play back video using the DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW recordable disc formats. In addition, it can play back through most digital television sets and monitors. D-R1 can simultaneously record and play back recordings when using a disc based on the DVD-RAM rewritable format. This enables consumers to pause live television and begin viewing a programme from the start while the recording is still in progress.
