Games developer backs DVD-ROM format.(New Products & Services)

German games developer Crytek is first to announce release of a major PC title exclusively on DVD-ROM in some territories. Vast majority of PC games are released on the aging CD-ROM format, forcing users to install multiple discs on their machines (up to five discs in some cases). DVD-ROM technology for PC has been available for seven years but industry is still reluctant to adopt the newer format. Publishers claim adoption rate of DVD-ROM has not reached sufficient levels and that it remains more cost effective to release games on the older media. Crytek's Far C
