CD-ROM technology will continue to expand and meet the challenges posed by other storage technologies in 1996. High-capacity CD-ROM technology will become a reality with the introduction of Digital Video Disc drives, although many issues will surface regarding the performance implications of this new technology. Multimedia advances will continue to be made, although definitive market issues have yet to be resolved. Competition and "plug-and-play" concepts will also affect CD-ROM technology in 1996.
