SMSC Expands Marketing and Sales Efforts in Taiwan
Standard Microsystems Corp. (SMSC) today introduced three new advanced PC Input/Output ICs and three LAN ICs. At the same time SMSC also identified its plans to expand its sales and marketing team in Taiwan.
"Standard Microsystems is very seriously committed to the Taiwan market," said Arthur Sidorsky, SMSC's President and Chief Operating Officer. "A large percentage of the Company's revenues come from Taiwan. Furthermore, we design many devices specifically to meet the requirements of this important marketplace by jointly defining features with our local Taiwan customers in support of the OEM market. To promote our sales opportunities, we have increased our staffing level in Taiwan this year and will continue to do so as our revenues grow."
Paul Richman, SMSC's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer remarked: "Standard Microsystems has a history of providing leading-edge semiconductor devices, designed to provide the latest features while offering the best value, for the PC industry. Our new strategic relationship with Intel Corporation further enhances our capabilities to continue this tradition. Since PC system design activity in Taiwan is growing faster than the industry as a whole, it makes a great deal of sense that SMSC increase its focus and presence in Taiwan."
Two of the new PC99-compliant PC I/O devices, which are being introduced today in Taiwan, include the FDC37B80x and the FDC37B72x. These devices join the already announced and in production FDC37M60x, FDC37M70x, and FDC37B78x as preferred design choices now available for use in desktop and multiprocessor server applications.
SMSC is also announcing an expansion of its PC I/O product line for notebook applications - the FDC37N869. This PC99-compliant device joins the new industry standard FDC37N769, which is already in production. Both devices are fully featured for critical power management applications, and both also have production-released software drivers available for the integrated Fast InfraRed Communications Controller.
Three new LAN ICs complete the new offerings. These are the LAN83C171 and LAN83C175 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC devices, and the LAN83C180 10/100 Mbps Transceiver (PHY) device.
Samples of these new products are available now with production quantities available in September.
