This previously announced acquisition expands Motorola's leadership in communications processors into high-end network processors, a special class of communications processors that enables network equipment vendors to bring innovative products to market faster by implementing key features in software, rather than hardware.
Cahners In-Stat Group projects the market for programmable network processors will grow to $2.9 billion by 2004.
Motorola is a leading supplier of communications processors to network equipment vendors, with more than 300 customers and thousands of design wins based on its DigitalDNA(TM) portfolio of smart networking silicon and software.
With the addition of the C-Port C-5(TM) DCP network processor, Motorola can deliver a comprehensive communications platform including host, integrated communications and network processors, digital signal processors, development environments, and application software.
C-Port will operate under its own name and will continue to have headquarters in North Andover. Dr. Larry Walker will continue as president.
