Simplified Package Prototype System

Roland DGA Corp., a manufacturer of inkjet printers and printer/cutters, introduced a system for producing professional blister-pack packaging prototypes, in-house, in less then a day.

System components include a 3D laser scanner, 3D milling machine, 54´´-wide integrated printer/cutter and vacuum-forming equipment.

The process starts by using the laser scanner to capture the 3D surface of the original product to make a mold. The mold is then milled and positioned in the vacuum-forming machine to form a blister pack.

Graphics are designed with standard design software that includes a vector cut line for each contour cut that will be required in the finished product.

The graphics file is first imported into Roland's VersaWorks RIP software and then is sent to the printer cutter, which completes both the printing and the contour cutting processes.
