Canon recently announced four new monochrome laser MFPs in its imageCLASS MF6500 series. The new models, the MF6540, MF6590, MF6595 and MF6595cx are aimed at small and home offices, Canon says. Each device can copy, print, fax and scan at 24 pages-per-minute speeds. The addition

of the new models to the imageCLASS series is part of a strategic move by many equipment manufacturers, including Canon, to focus on smaller offices that are making the transition from single-function machines, such as solo printers, copiers or fax machines, to multi-function products with a smaller desk footprint.

Konica Minolta is releasing two new monochrome laser printers in its line of bizhub products, the 40P and 40PX. The printer features 45 pages per minute printing speed in addition to new security technologies, such as password-protected printing capabilities, which is an increasingly common feature in office equipment, including printers and MFPs. The 40P and 40PX printers also supports Konica's proprietary software system called Emperon Print Technology, which supports input and processing of newer advanced file formats such as XPS, PostScript, PDF and PCL.
