LONDON & REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2001

New Levels of Customer Service Bring High Speed Personalization and

Interaction to the Mobile User

SeeBeyond (Nasdaq:SBYN), the leading global provider of

eBI solutions, today announced that Vodafone Multimedia has selected SeeBeyond and integration partner etc to develop a scalable, high performance infrastructure to allow event-based or two-way text messaging for its users.

The ability to deliver information to customers via a mobile network has given content providers a whole new way of communicating effectively with their customers. The GSM Association has predicted that 200 billion text messages will be sent over the world's networks during 2001.

To take advantage of the massive popularity of text messaging in the U.K., Vodafone Multimedia, part of Vodafone UK, needed to develop a robust and highly scalable infrastructure to enable organizations to deliver content to customers via the Vodafone UK mobile network. Enlisting services from etc, Vodafone Multimedia selected SeeBeyond to link BroadVision and Vodafone Multimedia's Java-based test message service with key systems and applications including LDAP services, IVR systems and FTP sources.

Organizations such as FT.com rely on Vodafone Multimedia to send out scheduled text message news updates to its customers and Manchester United sends text messages to its customers' mobile phones through the "Match Tracker" service. The etc and SeeBeyond solution will provide a scalable, high performance infrastructure that has the potential to allow Vodafone Multimedia to provide true multi-channel access and take content from providers such as Manchester United, and deliver it to subscribers via the web, text messaging, email and voicemail.

"With deregulation, emerging technology and the massive growth in the mobile telecommunications market, organizations must offer an ever increasing level of service to their customers. As a leader in defining the future of the wireless world, Vodafone Multimedia has taken active steps to address the market's evolution," said David Bennett, vice president and general manager of EMEA for SeeBeyond. "By leveraging the benefits of the SeeBeyond integration platform, Vodafone Multimedia is providing its customers with personalized information wherever and whenever they want to receive it."

Business users rather than developers at Vodafone Multimedia will be responsible for managing the service and its replication to new customers. This will increase operational efficiency and reduce time to market for new services from months to weeks or even days. "Mobility is quickly becoming a fundamental aspect of today's communication services, and it is services such as these that will explode as we move towards 3G -- and that explosion will need the scalability inherent in our product suite," added Bennett.
