SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 2001
XACCT Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of business infrastructure software solutions for IP networks, and MANX Telecom Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of British Telecom (BT), today
"We evaluated solutions from 18 different companies, and XACCT was the most flexible in terms of versatility and what we call `drivability,'" said Mark Briers, BT's director for the MANX UMTS Project. "XACCT is a real partner for us because they can accommodate necessary last-minute changes in requirements. This allows us to bill for UMTS services, including streaming video, even though international UMTS standards are still evolving."
"The explosion in demand for new mobile services such as streaming media and m-Commerce makes time-to-market a top priority for the operators," said Eric Gries, president and chief executive officer at XACCT. "The MANX installation demonstrates that XACCT not only has a robust solution for today's services, but also that it is flexible enough to evolve with the emerging standards, quickly and cost effectively. In addition, we are delighted that this project provides us with the opportunity to work with other market-leading vendors like NEC, Siemens, and Cerillion Technologies."
MANX will install XACCTmobile on the Isle of Man, where it provides fixed-line PSTN, GSM mobile, Wireless Access Protocol (WAP), ISP, and Web/e-commerce services. In addition to breaking new ground as the first commercial launch of UMTS in the world, this installation is the first deployment of the XACCT platform that interfaces with voice switches from Ericsson and with 3G switches from NEC and Siemens, offering a truly convergent, multi-service back-office infrastructure.
