Piper Plastics Inc, a US-based precision parts manufacturer, has introduced test socket components for the semiconductor industry, using ceramic-filled polyaryletherketone from Victrex plc, UK.
Victrex's polyary-letherketone is better known by its brand name PEEK; this particular version was supplied by the company's US division.
Test sockets are used in the final stage of semiconductor manufacturing, when the microprocessor chips are plugged into a circuit board for various systems function tests. These chips have hundreds of metal contacts repeatedly inser
