Photo Kiosk Market Grows with UserAwareness.

Business/Technology Editors

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000

A new report from InfoTrends Research Group highlights the proliferation of photo kiosks in North America. Such self-service kiosks are increasingly found in retail locations, allowing users to easily and instantly

create reprints and enlargements from their prints. Kiosk shipments are expected to grow 15% annually, reaching a North American installed base of over 100,000 units by 2004.

End user research reveals that users are satisfied with the photo kiosk experience, and most are repeat customers. Yet, awareness of photo kiosk benefits is low. Research indicates that once the features of photo kiosks are explained to users, most users say they expect to use a kiosk within the next 12 months. Photo kiosks are also becoming popular among retailers, because they can generate high sales per square foot and bring customers into the store.

"A new range of features is being developed for next-generation photo kiosks, which will make them even more attractive," said Kristy Holch, principal of InfoTrends Research Group. "Future kiosks will be able to handle input from digital cameras, connect to the Internet for access to online photo communities and centralized printing services, and connect to on-site minilabs for more versatile, high volume output. These capabilities will strengthen the overall digital imaging infrastructure that has been emerging though digital minilabs, online photofinishing, and online photo communities."

The new report, "2000 Photo Kiosk Forecast," covers the major trends in the market, and includes a five-year market forecast for photo kiosk unit shipments, hardware revenues, and expected print revenue generated annually per kiosk. The study also presents results from a survey of end users on photo kiosk usage in North America, and profiles the primary kiosk vendors. The report is available immediately in hard copy or electronic format.
