WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2000
booktech.com (AMEX: BTC), a first mover in digital and on-demand custom content publishing focused on the education market, today announced that the Consortium for Worker Education
This is the second major contract awarded to the company over the past 3 months.
Funded by 47 unions, representing more than 800,000 workers, as well as by New York State and federal agencies, CWE conducted education and training programs for more than 40,000 workers and professionals in 1999. Over 800,000 union members and many others are eligible for CWE educational and training programs.
Starting with courses for surgical technologists and patient care associates this fall, and more than 120 other courses in early 200l, booktech.com will demonstrate its unique capability of providing customized and copyright-protected textbooks and other materials for CWE courses as electronic downloads to student computers, as well as in the form of printed books and CDs. According to Dr. Francisco Madera, CWE Director of Development, "booktech.com will be a key partner in CWE's ambitious new efforts to offer many of its workforce, health care and other courses online through the Web."
"Even as we expand CWE classroom training programs in the five boroughs of New York City," Dr. Madera says, "imagine the thousands more students that we will be able to reach through computer-assisted distance education, in which our teachers will be supported with online or printed training materials customized to their specifications by booktech.com." "Also," continues Madera, "we expect that booktech.com will join CWE in international partnerships to provide distance education worldwide."
Dr. Morris Shepard, Chairman and CEO of booktech.com, is equally enthusiastic about his Company's association with the Consortium for Worker Education. "As a long-time professor myself, and as one always eager to create the best of text materials to support my teaching, I am glad that we can now help do the same for the teachers of CWE."
"This contract", Dr. Shepard continued, "is another example of the acceptance of the Company's services by large learning institutions and on management's ability to execute its business plan and add value to shareholders. It will be especially satisfying to provide innovative materials for the very worthy students and trainees of the New York unions, and for those in such CWE programs as health care, Satellite Child Care, professional re-employment and outplacement, and the degree programs for union members at the City University of New York."
