SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2001
Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S(R)) (NASDAQ: ESCC)--Evans & Sutherland, the leader in visual simulation technology, Tuesday announced the development of the industry's first
The E&S Simulation Technology Training Center will offer in-depth classroom and hands-on instruction in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all simulator subsystems with the goal of producing certified simulator technicians.
The new training program will be offered to customers in phases, with Phase 1 providing more accessible and affordable visual system and database modeling training.
Subsequent phases will expand the curriculum to include other simulator subsystems -- including motion systems, host computers, sensors, and cockpit instrumentation -- which will then provide the comprehensive education needed to qualify students for careers in the simulation industry.
The first session of the Sim Tech Training Center is scheduled to begin July 2, 2001, at E&S' Horsham, U.K. facility. Additional sessions will be held at other locations throughout Europe and North America to provide customers with regional access.
To ensure that students receive individualized instruction and hands-on experience, classes will be kept small and will include testing and certification upon completion of coursework. Course offering, faculty, and registration information is available online at http://training.es.com.
E&S developed the training center in response to the growing demand for trained simulator technicians. Currently, both military and commercial simulation customers must rely on training from vendors, on-the-job training conducted by in-house personnel, or formal training programs offered by technical colleges and universities.
These options can be expensive and often do not provide the kind of specialized training in the newest technologies that is important for qualified simulator technicians.
"Over the past few years, we have heard a consistent theme from our customers," said Nicholas Gibbs, general manager, E&S Service and Support. "They have made substantial investments in simulation equipment, and they need qualified technicians to protect those investments. To ensure that they have those qualified technicians, they need affordable, quality training taught by experienced field service engineers.
"In addition, there is a shortage of qualified sim techs. We have conducted our own surveys and analyses, and we believe that the demand for sim techs will more than double over the next five years. The Sim Tech Training Center will help our customers and the industry address this demand."
