GROWTH OF BILINGUAL WORKFORCE. A study by the private consulting
firm COFINSA says Honduras has 42,000 people ages 18-35 who are
bilingual and have completed secondary education studies, preparing them
for positions with call centers. Bilingual Education for Central America
(BECA), a grassroots,
non-profit organization that promotes affordable
bilingual education in Central America, has begun forming community
partnerships to build a network of low-cost schools in Honduras.
Government also is supporting increased bilingual education via the
Community-Based Education Project funded by the World Bank.
