Stocks Inch up, Waiting for GDP to Gauge Economic Growth.

Oct. 30--Stocks edged higher yesterday on strong corporate profits as investors anticipated today's report on the pace of the nation's economic growth.

The Dow added 26.22 to 9,774.53. The Nasdaq edged up 4.30 to 1,936.56.

"It looks to be a market that just wants to go up," said Joseph Battipaglia, chief investment strategist at Ryan, Beck & Co. "Anybody who wanted to be pessimistic is waiting for the [growth] number."
