According to the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), US$1.2 billion worth of injection/blow moulding machines, extrusion machines, auxiliary equipment and components were shipped in 2003. This was a slight decrease of less than 1% from 2002. Overall, new orders for these machines decreased by 2.9% from 2002. Although injection moulding and extrusion machinery and auxiliary equipment shipments were down, blow moulding machinery showed the most promising increase with the number of units shipped and value of shipments registering an increase of 19.4% and 10.5% respectively.
