"This ranking is great, and tells just part of the story," said Austin Mayor Gus Garcia. "In my mind Austin is the Best City for Anyone - single, married, young, old or in-between. Austin is a beautiful city, a diverse city, a good city to work and relax in. And, as Forbes.com readers also responded: Austin ranks as one of the 'coolest' cities around."
Other highlights of the list:
-- Las Vegas was ranked No. 1 for job growth
-- Boston got a No. 1 ranking for culture
-- New York was ranked No. 1 for singles nightlife
-- The cheapest city for singles is San Antonio
-- Seattle tied with Austin as the No. 1 "coolest" cities
-- And last place? Pittsburgh - AGAIN!
Our readers' poll was very popular this year, with interesting results. Thousands of readers voted their thumbs' up, thumbs' down or neutral ranking on the 40 cities. No.1 in the readers' poll? Philadelphia - followed by Chicago, San Diego, Miami and New York rounding out the Top 5. The worst city for singles, according to the readers' poll, was Detroit. Singles in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati will be happy to hear that they were not at the bottom of this list. They came in 32 and 22, respectively.
Plus, in Best International Cities For Singles, Forbes.com selects 10 of the best cities outside the U.S. for singles, available online only at:
