'Illegal contraband is a problem at the CJC'

Last week a deputy jailer, Timothy Joiner, 34, was arrested and charged
with attempting to smuggle marijuana and other items into the Shelby County
Jail.

Sheriff Mark Luttrell admits that such incidents are not uncommon, but
quickly points to measures his office and staff are conducting to minimize
the problem.

Steve Shular, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office, pointed
out that this is the first time in more than a year that an employee has
been caught smuggling contraband.
