Though I have a high regard for Henry L. Feingold's scholarship as demonstrated in his perceptive article "Israel Diminished" (Midstream, January 2001), I would like to comment on the sensitive subject raised by him.
Since I too am not an Israeli, as Eli Wiesel writes in his New York Times op-ed piece, "Jerusalem in My Heart," I confine myself to essentials. In his balanced, fair, and objective critical account, Feingold takes note, as I do also, that Israeli security forces are provoked by gunmen who are shielded by Palestinian civilians. Thus
