BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2001
Bobsled and Luge Venue Receives the First
Cameras That Will be Installed for the Salt Lake City Games
Sensormatic Electronics Corporation (NYSE:SRM) today announced that it has installed its first state-of-the-art dome camera at the Utah Olympic Park near Salt Lake City as the one-year countdown begins to the start of 2002 Winter Olympic Games on February 8. The camera, which will watch over the bobsled and luge racetrack, is the first of more than 260 indoor and outdoor Sensormatic dome cameras that will protect athletes and visitors at the games, which will take place from February 8-24, 2002.
The Official Electronic Security Sponsor for the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Sensormatic will install hundreds of its most advanced programmable dome cameras at key venues and in the Athlete's Village to provide overall event safety and athlete security, as well as help monitor crowd control.
Offering the latest in video surveillance technology, these cameras can magnify an image up to 176X, zooming in close enough to read the name on an athlete's helmet. In addition, the cameras are equipped with special built-in heaters, enabling them to withstand extreme temperatures.
"Sensormatic is proud to be a sponsor of the Winter Olympic Games, but more importantly we are proud that our technology can help make these games more safe and secure for the participants, their families, visitors and staff," said Per Olof-Loof, president and CEO of Sensormatic. "Our newest programmable dome cameras, like the one currently being installed at the Utah Olympic Park, can see more clearly at night than the human eye and have the capability to track athletes as they race down the course. These technology advancements will be an important component to the overall Olympic security plan."
Dome cameras are just one part of Sensormatic's Olympic security installation, which will eventually include biometric access control systems in high-security areas and anti-theft systems in retail venues. Sensormatic is also in the process of upgrading the security equipment at three U.S. Olympic Training Centers located in Chula Vista, Calif., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lake Placid, N.Y., with its latest digital recording devices, newest cameras and access control systems.
In addition to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Sensormatic is a sponsor of the 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Teams. The company's support of the Olympic Games first began in 1996, when Sensormatic served as the first Official Electronic Security Sponsor of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta. Sensormatic's systems were used to protect high-security areas such as competition venues, the Olympic Village and the Command and Control Center.
Sensormatic designs, manufactures, sells, services and supports the world's most advanced lines of fully integrated electronic article surveillance (EAS) and security management solutions. Sensormatic also leads the security industry in integrated source tagging - a process through which manufacturers of consumer goods apply anti-theft tags at the point of packaging or manufacturing.
Sensormatic security solutions protect more than half of the Fortune 500 companies in the world, including companies in the retail, government, education, public and private sectors. Based in Boca Raton, Fla., Sensormatic products are sold and serviced in more than 113 countries worldwide. The company employs more than 5,800 individuals in a variety of functions.
