"Pepsi has been involved with racing since 1948, and they have a great tradition in Winston Cup Series racing," said Robin Braig, the track's Executive Vice President and General Manager. "We're more than proud to have joined their racing fraternity."
Pepsi-Cola is the title sponsor of International Speedway Corporation track-hosted Winston Cup Series races in Daytona, Fla. (Pepsi 400), Brooklyn, Mich. (Pepsi 400) and Darlington, S.C. (Mountain Dew Southern 500). Under the new agreement, The Pepsi Bottling Group will provide PIR guests with a wide range of beverages, including Pepsi-Cola, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Aquafina bottled water, Lipton Brisk Iced Tea and Starbucks Frappuccino.
"We're most excited about the promotional opportunities Pepsi brings," added Braig. "Pepsi really understands racing and all the other lifestyle activities that bring pleasure to the American public. They sponsor Britney Spears, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Jeff Gordon, who is arguably the best, most-recognized active NASCAR driver in America. Pepsi is very active in using those sponsorships, and other relationships, to create bigger and better consumer promotions. We're already working on some projects that can only benefit Pepsi, Phoenix International Raceway, and our valued guests. We're very, very pleased to have Pepsi on board."
"And who knows," added Braig, "maybe now that we're a Pepsi track, Jeff Gordon will finally win a Winston Cup Series race here at PIR!"
"We're thrilled to bring the Joy of Pepsi to the thousands of race fans that flock to PIR each year," said Ron Goodson, Phoenix Market Unit General Manager for The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. "It's a terrific combination - world class drivers, one of the fastest one-mile tracks in the country and an ice-cold Pepsi-Cola! We're looking forward to partnering with the Phoenix International Raceway on some exciting new promotions over the next several years."
