Polythene, a versatile plastics material, plays an important role in packaging. It is mainly used as a film which is convertible into sacks, bags and flexible packaging materials and can be injected or blow moulded into bottles and large containers. Its long-term application will depend on the extent of its recyclability and producers' compliance with environmental concerns without sacrificing product requirements.

Polythene, (an abbreviation of polyethylene -- polymerised ethylene) is the major plastics material used in packaging. It is a member of the polyolefin group of thermop
