MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2003
SKECHERS USA, Inc. (NYSE:SKX), a global leader in the lifestyle footwear industry, today announced that Federal Jeans, Inc. has been named the licensee for Somethin' Else from SKECHERS-branded junior sportswear apparel in the United States and Canada. The line will launch in department stores in August 2004.
Under the agreement, Federal Jeans, Inc. will design, distribute and market coordinated junior sportswear tops and bottoms in denim, knit and woven materials using the Somethin' Else from SKECHERS logo. The line, available in junior sizes, will be priced to target junior consumers, with T-shirts ranging from $18 to $29 and jeans from $29 to $48.
"Juniors are known for sparking market trends," said Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS USA. "It's this same demographic who clamored for SKECHERS and took our appeal to an entirely new level. Offering a Somethin' Else from SKECHERS-branded clothing line that reflects their fashion-forward style is a natural step for our brand -- and a great opportunity for young women to embrace our image and further expose SKECHERS to their parents and siblings."
"SKECHERS is an all-American brand that has universal appeal. And Somethin' Else from SKECHERS footwear has developed into a cutting-edge brand that is priced right, trend right and has strong crossover appeal," said Orly Goldstein, executive vice president of Federal Jeans. "The Somethin' Else from SKECHERS clothing line has been developed with this same philosophy to maintain the brand's ubiquity among Generation Y consumers."
Since its launch nearly three years ago, the Somethin' Else from SKECHERS line has grown from several styles into a diverse offering of casual and dress casual footwear for the stylish junior. The line is available at major department and specialty stores in the United States as well as in select markets globally.
"Much like SKECHERS, Federal Jeans has made a name for itself through the design and development of quality products for a diverse market -- men, women and children -- that are available through numerous distribution channels," said Faith Paige Wall, vice president of licensing for SKECHERS USA. "Their reputation with the Revolt Jeans and Yo-Yo lines as well as private label brands, and their understanding of the unique needs of targeted markets is what appeals to SKECHERS."
In the last year, SKECHERS has strategically diversified its licensing agreements to reflect its various footwear lines for men, women and children. The brand currently has licensing agreements with Kids Headquarters for children's apparel; Renfro Corporation for SKECHERS-branded socks; Advance Group Inc. for men's and women's SKECHERS Sport watches; Garson International for SKECHERS Collection men's jackets and coats; Mitsui & Co., Ltd. for men's and women's apparel in Japan; and Multigroup for infant, toddler and children's apparel in Canada.
