BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 2001

Structural Group, a Maryland-based specialty concrete repair contractor, has scored an impressive 67th place ranking in Engineering News Record (ENR) magazine's annual listing of the Top 600 Specialty Contractors in the

United States.

First compiled in 1989, the well-known ENR annual listing ranks leading U.S. contractors according to construction revenues from specialty, prime or subcontracting work. Structural Group's revenues of $134 million in 2000 raised its ranking from 89th to 67th place in just one year.

Among those contractors specializing in concrete construction and repair, Structural Group ranked fourth overall, and the company ranked first in concrete repair. In addition to concrete, other significant specialty contracting activities covered by the ENR 600 listing include electrical, mechanical, masonry, steel erection, excavation and roofing.

Structural Group's increased ranking on the ENR 600 list underscores the dramatic growth this company has experienced over the past five years. From its early years as a regional contractor serving the Mid-Atlantic area, the company has emerged as a national entity, maintaining 20 operating centers throughout the United States.

The Structural Group organization consists of several businesses, including Structural Preservation Systems (structural repair, protection and strengthening services), Pullman Power (construction, repair and maintenance of chimneys, stacks and silos) and VStructural LLC (VSL) (post-tensioning systems, components and services).

Through its Strengthening Division, the company also provides services to restore or add strength to structures, and its GeoStructural Division focuses on foundation strengthening, settlement control and slope stabilization projects.

Structural Group performs a wide range of projects involving industrial facilities, commercial properties, public infrastructure and municipal buildings. Of particular importance is the power generation industry, which is experiencing an increasing need for construction and upgrade projects.

"Many of our markets are growing because of aging infrastructure," Peter Emmons, Chairman of Structural Group, notes. "Most structures eventually require repairs, and that gives us many opportunities to provide our services. Our business units provide us the opportunity to provide a package of services to solve our customers' structural challenges."

According to Emmons, this ties neatly into Structural Group's overall business mission, which is One Source, Many Solutions.
