Do you own a business with a grassy area that needs to be mowed and edged every week? If so, consider xeriscaping, that is using native plants and mulch or rock to replace the grass. Yes, it will be more expensive to do the initial landscaping, but once that's past, you won't be paying weekly mowing fees. Your landscaper may only need to come out once every month or so. After the plants are established, your watering bill should decrease.Since most professional lawn services use gas mowers, you'll be reducing their carbon footprint as well.
The heat of summer is a good time to start drawing up a landscape design. Purchasing the plants should be cheaper this autumn and by planting then, you'll give the plants time to establish their roots before next summer (this may not be advisable in areas with very cold winters).
