Wage determination concerns

The Mechanical Electrical Sheet Metal Alliance recently announced it supports the Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's efforts to improve and streamline the Davis-Bacon prevailing wage determination process. At the same time, it is expressing concerns about the Bureau of Labor Statistics'

(BLS) wage-related pilot programs.

The alliance praised the Wage and Hour Division for launching a new survey form (WD-10) that can be processed electronically. It enables contractors to provide computer-generated WD-10 forms, which can help reduce handwriting errors and improve overall efficiency of the process. New instructions are also included, with the goal of reducing the number of errors in contractor responses.

The alliance also supports the Wage and Hour Division s goal of providing new wage schedules every three years, improved survey tools, and more frequent determinations. The alliance says these measures will better reflect the market-based prevailing wage rates.
