A variety of government- and manufacturer-sponsored programs have appeared in response to the increased demand from educated consumers for quality-constructed homes with energy-efficient mechanical systems that meet their heating, cooling, and indoor air quality (IAQ) needs.

These programs guarantee quality workmanship and energy savings, and feature advanced mechanical system designs.

Although builder and HVAC system design consultants are actively involved, HVAC contractors are finding themselves more involved in the installation than the design phase of these programs.

The PATH Program

One of these programs is the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) program, which links federal government agencies with leaders from the home building, product manufacturing, insurance, financial and regulatory communities. The principal goals of the program include:
