The National Association for Women in Masonry (NAWM) was recently formed to "enhance the skills of women who are professionals in architecture and the related construction fields." The six founding members (from left) are Xiaoli Liu, MulvannyG2 Architecture; Tung Thanh Ho, MulvannyG2 Architecture;

Mara Smith, Architectural Brick Sculptures; Amanda Roberson, Freiheit & Ho Architects; Amy Rasmussen, Rasmussen Design Group; and Barbara Headrick, executive director, Masonry Institute of Washington.

The mission of the Seattle-based NAWM is to create an environment through education, training, and networking that enhances the leadership skills of women in the building industry. Upcoming plans include training sessions, lectures, seminars, and hands-on learning. The group's first major event will be the "Architect's Masonry Symposium" next March in Blaine, Wash.

Founding sponsors of NAWM include the Masonry Institute of Washington, Meade Design Group, Seattle Glass Block, Washington State Conference of Masonry Contractors, Pittsburgh Coming Glass Block, and MulvannyG2 Architecture.
