Spicer Hall, an 80-year old building on the campus of Akron University, was torn down several years ago. The facility had old terra cotta arches that the university did not want to throw away. Instead, the arches were cut out and saved in a warehouse on campus for about three years. The university
The contractor put the pieces on the ground, numbered each, and reassembled them like a puzzle. Old photographs aided in the process. The pieces for three portals--with keystones weighing about 400 pounds each--were put together in the warehouse and then taken as needed to the jobsite for reassembly. Three portals were installed in six weeks.
