Masonry Construction's Top 50 Contractors. (top 50).
The 50 companies represented in MASONRY CONSTRUCTION magazine's first annual "Top Contractors" listing combined for slightly more than $1 billion in masonry revenue in 2001. A little over 70% of this work was done in the commercial/industrial/institutional market. The repair/renovation/restoration market accounted for about 14% of the total, and the residential segment made up about 12%. The top volume producer on the list--McGee Brothers--did more residential work than all the other companies presented combined. Site amenities and "other" work accounted for the remainder.
The list includes two national contractors--The Western Group and Dee Brown--and eight general contractors doing masonry work. The Top 10 includes two companies from St. Louis and Dallas/Fort Worth. Florida and Wisconsin each have five contractors on the Top 50 list.
Information presented in the table is based on survey forms completed by our readers. The form appeared in several issues of MASONRY CONSTRUCTION. Mail and e-mail solicitation was also used to gather data.
The list is not intended to be a definitive statement of the country's top revenue producing masonry contractors. It only encompasses those firms that participated in the project.
