The Heart of America Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors presented its 2004 Excellence in Construction Awards at ceremonies held Dec. 2 in Overland Park, Kan. More than 250 contractors, architects and developers attended the awards ceremony.

The 2004 President's Eagle Award, the association's top award for a general contractor, was awarded to the Killian Construction Company of Springfield, Mo., for their work on Hammons Field Baseball Stadium in Springfield.

The Pinnacle Award, the award that recognizes excellence in subcontracting, was presented to Wachter Electric Company of Lenexa, Kan., for the Cerner Corporation Data Center, Phase II, in Lee's Summit, Mo.

The annual "Excellence in Construction" competition judges entries submitted by merit contractors in 11 categories for general contractors and nine categories for specialty subcontractors. Entrants are members of the Heart of America Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a national trade association for merit contractors with 23,000 construction and construction-related member firms.
