CLEARWATER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2000

Robert S. Wiggins, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Technology Research Corporation (TRC), (Nasdaq:TRCI), announced today that the Company will introduce

and demonstrate its Fire Shield(TM) Home Wiring System at the International Home Builders' Show in Dallas, Texas, January 14-17, 2000.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in 1996, installed wiring was responsible for 14,300 reported residential fires which resulted in 120 deaths, 340 civilian injuries and over $250 million in property damage. Inadvertent damage to household wiring may occur beginning with the construction phase of a home, with remodeling or with modifications to the electrical system. In addition, latent defects in the original wire are possible. Any of these conditions can eventually cause a fire.

The purpose of the TRC's Home Wiring System is to continuously monitor the integrity of the installed household wiring and alert the home owner, in advance, of potentially dangerous electrical wiring conditions that could lead to a fire. As a result, the home owner has time to take corrective action before a fire occurs.

The Fire Shield Home Wiring System combines TRC's Fire Prevention Monitor(TM) with its specially insulated Fire Shield wire. The system has flexibility in indicating and communicating an identified wiring problem. It can provide a visual alarm, an audible alarm, interface to a monitoring/security system and/or provide a signal to disconnect power to a branch circuit.

TRC is recognized as a leading manufacturer of electrical safety products for both industry and the consumer marketplace. The Company's product lines include Shock Shield(R), Surge Guard(TM), Electra Shield(R), Fire Shield(TM) and power monitors and control equipment used by the United States Military and its prime contractors. Additional information may be found at www.trci.net.
