Turner To Release Building In Phases To Accommodate Owner's Needs

The Miami office of Turner Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Turner Corporation (AMEX:TUR), the nation's leading

general builder, has been awarded a $25 million contract for the construction of a 10-story, 2,270-car parking garage for Miami-Dade Community College at the institution's Wolfson campus in downtown Miami. The garage's ground floor accommodates approximately 50,000-square-feet of space slated for student use.

Construction has begun and completion is slated for March 2000. The facility will accommodate the college's increased student enrollment as well as faculty and staff. Miami-Dade Community College is the nation's largest community college.

Turner is the construction manager "at risk" for the project. The firm performed preconstruction services for the project beginning in July 1998, at the start of the design development phase. The architect is Carr Smith Corradino, Miami.

In response to the college's need to utilize finished parking spaces as soon as possible, Turner will release the building in phases. To accomplish this, Turner devised a concrete jointing system to allow the structural frame erection to be executed in phases. The structure features architecturally finished precast concrete with metal screening, and multiple escalators.

Current and recently completed South Florida projects for Turner's Miami office include the interior fit-out of an operations center for American Express in Ft. Lauderdale; a library addition and renovation for Florida International University in Miami; and Williams Island Residence DuCap and Villa Marina, two luxury condominiums in North Miami Beach.

The Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's leading general builder. During 1997, The Turner Corporation completed in excess of $3.6 billion of construction.
