Architects Van Lom Group of Portland is working on hotel reminiscent of Bend's Pilot Butte Inn

Architects Van Lom Group of Portland is designing a 92-unit hotel for Sisters that stays within the Central Oregon city's strict design code by recalling the past.
The three-story, wood-frame hotel will be located south of West Hood Avenue at New Sisters Village on the town's west side.
The design received unanimous approval from the Sisters Planning Commission on Jan. 15. The city of Sisters, according to Tom Louris of Architects Van Lom Group, requires that new developments remain consistent with existing architecture.
"They have an 1880s design theme," Louris said, referring to the design code. "The buildings have a Western town motif." He said buildings in the small town emulate the design genre between 1870 and 1920.
Having grown up in nearby Bend, Louris said he was familiar with that style. For the New Sisters Village Hotel, Louris said he took design cues from the famous Pilot Butte Inn, which was built along the Deschutes River in downtown Bend in 1917.
