Details of the project were made public nearly four years ago, with developers taking a tough stance: not a single lot would be constructed unless a decision was made on the future of the Mangrove Pond landfill located upwind of the resort. At the time, former Sandy Lane executive Michael Davern said that while the landfill appeared to be managed much better than when he first joined Sandy Lane four years earlier, it still presented significant challenges for the country club located less than a kilometer downwind of the dump. "We are a five-diamond property, and if you do not take care of these things up front, they will come back to haunt you."
