City Energy Limited, a London-based company specialising in the development of energy-from-waste projects, is applying for planning permission in Sheffield to construct a [pounds]20 million plant to turn waste tyres into electricity for the National Grid and hot water for the Sheffield community heating system, with steel and carbon by-products. If planning permission is granted, the first phase of the plant could be operational within six months from then.
