ABC Honors Projects Of Distinction

In November, the Associated Builders & Constructors of Wisconsin (ABC) bestowed its 2007 "Projects of Distinction" awards for outstanding projects at a dinner and ceremony in Pewaukee. This is the 15th year the award competition has been held.

The Projects of Distinction Awards Program recognizes the most distinct construction projects in Wisconsin. "The winners in the Projects of Distinction Awards Program earned their awards," says Chris Reinhart, marketing director for Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. "The entries are raising the bar every year, according to our judges, and selecting the winners keeps getting tougher," Reinhart adds.

Project entries were evaluated by an independent panel of construction experts. Winning projects are eligible for entry in ABC's National Excellence in Construction Awards Program.

The projects are judged in 22 categories representing the full range of construction specialties in which ABC member contractors work. The categories include everything from commercial and industrial construction to multi-unitresidential projects, metal buildings, public works/infrastructure, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and site work, among others.

This year ABC also recognized four Merit Award winners. Merit Awards are given to contractors that ranked extremely high but were edged out by another impressive project in the same category.

All winning projects were completed between May 2006 and September 2007.

The competition was open to all general and subcontractor members of ABC of Wisconsin. Projects were recognized in such areas as overall distinctiveness, execution of design, craftsmanship, coordination, budgeting, safety, difficulty, and unusual challenges.

During the November dinner meeting, ABC of Wisconsin also presented its top individual recognition, the Wes Meilahn award, to the member who provided the most outstanding service to the organization during the year. The 2007 recipient was Roger Thimm of Wondra Excavating, Inc.
