QUEENSLAND Rail (QR) won a $A 240 million ($US 185.5 million) contract to build the 110km heavy-haul spur line from Xstrata, a Swiss mining company. The line will connect the region's new Rolleston coal mine with the existing 1067rom-gauge rail network near Blackwater. It will necessitate doubling of up to 30km of track along the line to the port of Gladstone to cater for tonnage increases resulting from Rolleston Mine operations.
