FTBA Presents 2006 Scholarships

The Florida Transportation Builders Association recently presented its annual scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to children of employees of FTBA members.

This year's scholarships were presented during the recent FTBA annual convention in Naples, Fla.

"Our scholarship program is one of the best things FTBA has done as an association," says Bob Burleson, president of FTBA. "The program was first started in 1998, and I am proud to report that since that time, including this year, we have given out 61 four-year scholarships, seven two-year scholarships and 34 one-time scholarships."

Since 1998, he added the program has committed almost $300,000 to scholarship funding.

This year, FTBA awarded 12 four-year scholarships. Recipients will receive $1,000 awards for each of the next four years. Four-year scholarship recipients include the following:

  • Danielle Bradley, who will be attending Baylor University. Danielle is the daughter of Dianne Bradley, Vecellio Group/RangerConstruction.

  • Carly Burt, who will be attending Louisiana State University. Carly's parents are Eric and Jeana Burt, Hewitt Contracting Company.

  • Tracy Cheung, who will be attending Cornell University. Tracy's parents are Francis and Winnie Cheung, Ardaman & Associates, Inc.

  • Stephanie Everett, who will be attending Duke University. Her parents are William and Mary Everett, URS Corp.

  • Maria Garcia, who will be attending Florida International University. Her parents are Fidel and Maria Garcia, Ardaman & Associates.

  • Emily Martin, who will be attending the University of Florida. Her parents are Dewey and Theresa Martin, Parsons Brinckerhoff.

  • Sarah Quinlan, who will be attending William & Mary. Her parents are Brian and Delia Quinlan, Cherry Hill Construction.

  • Alladin Riad, who will be attending the University of Central Florida. Aladdin's parents are Ashraf Riad and Riham Mansour, Ardaman & Associates.

  • Jehan Shah, who will be attending the University of Florida. Jehan's parents are Lalitkumar and Swati Shah, Parsons Brinckerhoff.

  • Margherita Sherman, who will be attending the University of Florida. Her parents are Yevgeny and Sofya Sherman, URS Corp.

  • Brittany Spradlin, who will be attending Florida State University. Brittany's parents are Michael and Cynthia Spradlin, J.E. Hill Contractor.

  • Hailey Waddell, who will be attending the University of Florida. Hailey's parents are Jay and Hilary Waddell, Martin Marietta Aggregates.

Also recognized were the following students, who will receive $1,000 awards for the next two years:

  • Erin Campbell, daughter of Larry and Kimberly Campbell, Florida Trucking Co., Inc. Erin will be attending the University of Florida.

  • Shannon Cavucci. Shannon's parents are Kenneth Cavucci and Patricia Judy, Granite Construction Company. Shannon will be attending Lake Sumter Community College.

  • Gregory Lennartz, son of Jeffrey and Marianne Lennartz, Wachovia Ins. Services. Gregory will be attending Georgia Tech.

  • Jayleen Nazario. Jayleen's parents are Vilfredo Figueroa and Abigail Santiago, Flagler Construction Company. Jayleen will be attending Valencia Community College.

  • Kyle Sligh. Kyle's parents are David and Trudi Sligh, Cemex, Inc. Kyle will be attending the University of Florida.

  • Julia Treverton, daughter of Stephen and Antonia Treverton, Granite Construction Company. Julia will be attending Florida State University.

  • Joseph Zwick. Joseph's parents are Edward and Joni Zwick, Granite Construction Company. Joseph will be attending Santa Fe Community College.
