The Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA) and the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc County Center (UW-Manitowoc) have announced new scholarships for engineering students. The scholarships have been made possible by a $75,000 grant from The Ruth St. John and John Dunham West Foundation of Manitowoc, Wis.
The grant has been used to start an endowment fund in the name of John D. West, a long-time Manitowoc resident, engineer, philanthropist, and business leader who for more than 50 years was the driving force that helped build The Manitowoc Co., Inc., into a world leader in the construction equipment, shipbuilding and foodservice-equipment industries.
The UW-Manitowoc is a two-year college, so students pursuing baccalaureate degrees transfer to other schools to complete those degrees. UW-Manitowoc Foundation West scholarships will be awarded to selected engineering students who transfer from UW-Manitowoc to four-year schools in pursuit of their degrees.
The HCEA West Foundation Scholarships are for HCEA members and their immediate family members to use in attending accredited college or university engineering programs in their home area.
All applications, candidate screening and administration for both scholarship programs will be handled by the UW-Manitowoc Foundation.
Donations to the fund are being accepted, and all will be split evenly between the UW-Manitowoc Foundation and the HCEA.
