Ben Maibach Honored

Ben C. Maibach III, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Barton Malow Company, was one of eight alumni honored at Michigan State University's College of Engineering awards banquet held on May 7 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering awarded him its 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award for being a leader in his profession and his community, and a contributor to his alma mater, Michigan State University (MSU).

Maibach represents the third generation of his family at Barton Malow, a construction services company. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Michigan State University in 1968. Having begun as a laborer at Barton Malow in 1964, Maibach advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, and ultimately became chairman in 2002. Under his guidance, the company grew from a single office in Southfield to a $1-billion-a-year enterprise, with five regional offices and specialties in health, education, industrial construction, and sports facilities.
