May 2--BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- When Robert Friedland first saw the 27,000-square-foot building on Fifth Street, it looked to him like it had been bombed.
All the windows were smashed, much of the ceiling was destroyed and lay in rubble on the floor, and all of the copper pipe and wiring had been taken out of the building, Friedland said. A huge hole had been knocked through the cement-block back wall, he added.
