Richard Frieber of Artist in Iron hand-forges a variety of one-of
a-kind wrought iron and bronze work for the home, including lighting,
door latches, and gates. The grandson of a blacksmith, Frieber built his
business on years of classes, apprenticeships, and experimentation.
"A lot of my influence
was from the European smiths who came over
here and did some incredible work," says Frieber. Perfecting much
of his work simply by doing, Frieber would visit museums with iron done
by some of the great blacksmiths, "looking at the work, studying
it, trying to figure out how it was done, then going back to the shop to
try and recreate shapes." His designs, ranging from a unicorn
handle to intricate grilles, maintain period authenticity. 732.560.8199.
