About Cinerama
Seattle investor and philanthropist Paul G. Allen purchased the original Cinerama in March 1998 after hearing it was going to be torn down by developers. His investment and project management company, Vulcan Inc., then embarked on an aggressive multi-million dollar renovation project to restore the landmark 800-seat theatre to its original splendor. Red mohair seats, a state-of-the-art sound and projection system, funky `60s-inspired design, and the ability to show films on both a traditional screen and the deeply curved, 90 x 30 feet Cinerama-format screen (with some films using three separate projectors), make the theatre truly one-of-a-kind in the world. The Seattle Cinerama Theatre reopened in April 1999, and remains the Northwest's top theatre attraction. General Cinema Theatres operates the Seattle Cinerama on behalf of Vulcan Inc.
