the mathematical and scientific study of the possible uses of computers. Computer science is a wide-ranging field including pure mathematics (see complexity theory; halting problem), engineering (see computer architecture, management (see software engineering, and even the study of the human mind (see )artificial intelligence). Indeed, computer scientists often work on problems in almost any field to which computers can be applied. Computer science is more than just training in the use of today's computers and software; it includes preparation to understand the technology of the future and its theoretical underpinnings.
