CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1995-- GenRad, Inc., (NYSE:GEN), today announced that John C. Washburn has been named Vice President, General Manager of Concord Products, the Company's core product line of test systems, software and services based in Concord, Massachusetts.

As a result of his promotion, Mr. Washburn is now responsible for all Concord Products' activities, including worldwide sales.
Naming Mr. Washburn to head Concord Products, GenRad President and Chief Executive Officer, James F. Lyons said, "I have known John Washburn professionally for 27 years. He has a rich background as a general manager of both high tech and global operations. In the past year, John has stimulated significant operational improvement in our Concord Products operation. Under his direction, it will achieve world-class standards of customer satisfaction, quality and profit."
Before joining GenRad, Mr. Washburn was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Mott Metallurgical Corporation, a manufacturer of porous metal filtration products for the semiconductor, chemical, and petroleum refining markets. During his professional career, Mr. Washburn also served as Vice President and General Manger of the Automotive Products Group for Scovill; as Executive Vice President of the Xerox Education Group; and as an operating Vice President of Vistron, Inc., the chemical and plastics subsidiary of SOHIO.
Mr. Washburn is an engineering graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The direction of Board Test product sales worldwide was assigned to Mr. Washburn, as John K. Bulman, formerly Vice President Worldwide Sales, transitioned to GaSonics, International, a San Jose, California-based semiconductor production equipment supplier, where he is now Vice President of Sales.
Four senior managers who had formerly reported to Mr. Bulman have been promoted with expanded responsibilities.
o Michael W. Schraeder, Vice President - North and South American Sales and Service Operations
A fifteen year veteran of GenRad's U.S. sales force, Mr. Schraeder began his career in 1979 as a member of a focused "Tiger Team" of sales engineers who first introduced GenRad's GR228X In-Circuit Test System to the market. From there Mr. Schraeder's assignments included:
o Service Products' Marketing - (1980-1981) o Board Test Marketing - (1981-1983) o Southeast District Sales - (1983-1985) o System Sales Specialist, Quality Management Products - (1985-1986) o Area Manager - (1986-1988) o Board Test Sales Specialist - (1988-1990) o Florida-based Southeast District Sales Manager - (1990-1991) o and most recently, Mr. Schraeder was the Eastern Regional Sales Manager
based in Concord, Massachusetts - (1991-1995)
Mr. Schraeder has successfully met every challenge encountered in his sales career with GenRad. He has earned the responsibility of directing sales and service activities in GenRad's home territory, the Americas: North, Central and South. Mr. Schraeder now reports to Mr. Washburn.
o Kenneth Harris, Vice President - European Operations
Mr. Harris first joined GenRad in 1977 introducing the GR179X and GR227X product lines in the United Kingdom. Since then he has held various management roles in sales and operations, including five years as the Managing Director of GenRad's UK subsidiary, GenRad, Ltd., based in Maidenhead, England. In 1994, after two years as the Director of Sales in Europe, Mr. Harris took on the additional responsibility of the Director of Operations for Europe, and played a major part in architecting and implementing the streamlining of the Sales and Support Operations in Europe. Based at GenRad's European Technology Center in Munich, Germany, Mr. Harris is very positive about the increasing contribution that GenRad- Europe can make to GenRad's profitability in the coming years. Mr. Harris now reports to Mr. Washburn.
o M.M. Chan, Director - Asian Operations
Mr. Chan joined GenRad in early 1989 as a Regional Sales Manager. In 1990 he was promoted to Managing Director of GenRad's Singapore Sales and Technical Support Center. Under his direction, GenRad-Singapore has become one of the Company's most successful field sales sites servicing GenRad's fastest growing region. Mr. Chan now reports to Mr. Washburn.
o John DiGirolamo, Director, Western Region (U.S.) and Latin American Sales
Mr. DiGirolamo is an experienced GenRad Sales Manager who has served for the past year as Western Regional (U.S.) Sales Manager based in Irvine, California. In recognition of his effectiveness managing this important region, which includes responsibility for Silicon Valley, Southern California, the Northwest and Southwest, Mr. DiGirolamo has also been given sales management responsibility for the high growth developing areas of Latin America. Mr. DiGirolamo now reports to Mr. Schraeder.
