Tall Buildings Council holds awards dinner.

The Illinois Institute of Technology's S. R. Crown Hall will be the setting for the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's Sixth Annual Awards Dinner. Honorees are:

Lynn S. Beedle Achievement Award: Lord Norman Foster. Principal of Foster and Partners, London, Sir Norman

has received many awards, including the RIBA Royal Gold Medal, the RIBA Trustees Medal, the Gold Medal of the AIA and the Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Fazlur Rahman Khan Medal: Dr. Farzad Naeim, Dr. Naeim is director of research & development for John A. Martin & Associates, as well as vice president of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and editor-in-chief of it's professional journal, Earthquke Spectra. His dedication to his profession has earned him many engineering awards.

Best Tall Building Award: Beetham Hilton Tower, Manchester, United Kingdom. The building was selected for its sensitivity to its urban surroundings, exuding an honest expression of its various programmatic functions. The award will be presented to the Beetham Organization Limited.

Best Sustainable Tall Building Award: Heart Tower, New York. The building is being recognized for its many sustainable features including the use of 26% less energy than a building constructed to normal code, its use of 90% of steel made from recycled material, and many other "green" features.

For 2007 the list of awards has been expanded to include the "Best Tall Building" and "Best Sustainable Tall Building" awards. These two new awards were created to compliment the two existing individual life-time achievement awards, recognizing both the team effort behind delivering tall buildings and the importance of design quality.

The awards will be presented at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's 6th Annual Awards Dinner on Oct. 25 at the Illinois Institute of Technology's S. R. Crown Hall in Chicago. For more information on the dinner program please visit the Council's Web site at www.ctbuh.org.
