NEW ORLEANS -- World Book, Inc. president Paul Gazzolo today applauded the American Library Association's (ALA) Office for Research and Statistics for winning the 2006 World Book-ALA Goal Grant Award. The award includes a $10,000 grant by World Book and was presented today at the ALA Annual
"The ALA is at the forefront in recognizing the diversity of those who rely on or could more greatly benefit from library services as well as in advocating strong leadership within the profession," said Gazzolo. "The World Book-ALA Goal Grant Award helps foster the continued success of these important objectives."
As recipient of the 2006 World Book-ALA Goal Award, the ALA Office for Research and Statistics will use the grant to research how the nation's public, academic, and school libraries could better serve the more than 20 million people in the U.S. who either speak limited or no English.
"The World Book-ALA Goal Grant Award is among the most generous award programs we have to recognize and help fund the improvement of public, academic, and school library services," said ALA executive director Keith Michael Fiels. "Each year the World Book-ALA Award helps advance a crucial program of benefit to libraries, librarians, and their patrons."
The World Book-ALA Goal Grant Award, established in 1960, has supported more than 50 research projects that have successfully advanced library services over the years, including grants to support research for advancing rural, native, and tribal school and public libraries; young adult library services; library leadership and recruitment; and internet use in libraries.
