AKRON, OHIO--Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is to join Amerityre Corp.'s project to develop polyurethane-based automotive tyres, Goodyear announced 30 Aug.

Amerityre, based in Boulder City, near Las Vegas, Nevada, has been developing the technology for five years, aiming to replace rubber in automotive tyres by a PU-based composition and manufacturing technology.

Any commercial production is years away, but continuing research has pushed forward the potential for PU tyres, said Dave Russ, spokesman for Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear, one of the three leading global t
